DHS-PB-2022-003: Emergency Evacuation Plans: Best Practices Guide for Accommodating People with Disabilities (February 28, 2022)
The NYC Department of Social Services (DSS) has developed a list of best practices to help facilities develop their evacuation and security plan, as part of their critical file, that addresses the needs of clients with disabilities, including people who use wheelchairs or other mobility assistive devices, people who are deaf or hard of hearing, people who are blind or low vision, people with psychiatric and cognitive disabilities, as well as other disability and language access needs. If providers have questions or require additional assistance in the development of their evacuation or security plan, please contact the Office of Disability Affairs at disabilityaffairs@dss.nyc.gov.
