Recently the Commission on Quality of Care for the Mentally Disabled issued a report entitled "A Review of Familial Abuse Allegations of Adults with Developrental Disabilities which recommended that this Department and the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD) take steps to clarify the responsibilities of the Protective Services for Adults (PSA) units of local departments of social services and other agencies serving the mentally retarded and developmentally disabled for conducting investigations into allegations of familial abuse.In response to this report, both state agencies have agreed to conduct a needs assessment to determine what policy, training or other initiatives are necessary to strengthen the relationship between PSA units and OMRDD.
