This release is to inform you of the key provisions of The Family Protection and Domestic Violence Intervention Act of 1994. This comprehensive legislation includes major revisions to the Family Court Act (FCA) and the Criminal Procedure Law (CPL) providing for more aggressive law enforcement and criminal justice interventions and protections for victims of domestic violence. The Act addresses the following major areas: choice of forum, mandatory arrest, orders of protection, and training. With the exception of the mandatory arrest provisions, this law is effective January 1, 1995. The mandatory arrest provisions are effective July 1, 1995.
