On August 22, 1996, the President signed into law the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA) of 1996, P.L. 104-193. Two of its provisions affect the way social services districts (SSDs) obtain their Interim Assistance Reimbursement (IAR) from the Social Security Administration (SSA) when certain large retroactive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are involved. These two provisions are outlined.
