The purpose of this General Information System (GIS) message is to provide local departments of social services staff with additional instructions for data entering children with special immigrant status into the Welfare Management System (WMS). GIS message 08 MA/012, explained that federal legislation created a special category of immigrants from Afghanistan and Iraq who are given Special Immigrant (SI) status. Visas will be coded “SIV”.
