The purpose of this release is to clarify the procedure that local social services districts must follow regarding Social Security Numbers (SSNs) for aliens who have not received work authorization from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) or whose immigration status prevents them from being authorized by the USCIS to work in the United States.
