#08-30-ELI: Afghan And Iraqi Nationals Granted Special Immigrant Status By The United States Citizenship And Immigration Services (USCIS)
As a result of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2008, signed into law on December 26, 2007, Afghan and Iraqi noncitizens granted special immigrant status under Section 101(a)(27) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) shall be eligible for the same public benefits available to refugees admitted under Section 207 of the INA if otherwise eligible. These benefits include, but are not limited to, resettlement assistance, Cash Assistance (Cash Assistance or CA), Food Stamps, medical assistance, and other public benefit programs.
