97-13: Rodriguez v. DeBuono - Use of Mayer Line for Personal Care Services Assessment Issues (04/28/97)

The Mayer fair hearing telephone line is available for New York City personal care services applicants, as well as recipients, to request fair hearings to contest their personal care services assessments.

Fair Hearing requests regarding any personal care services assessment issue, including denials and adequacies of the initial authorization should, therefore, be processed when a New York City appellant calls on the Mayer line.

The Mayer telephone number appears on the reverse of the City's form notice entitled "Notice of Decision of Initial Authorization of Personal Care Services" and on certain other City personal care services notices. The telephone number should not otherwise be generally distributed.

If a NYC client calls to request a fair hearing on any issue that is not related to personal care services assessments, s/he should be referred to call the non-Mayer fair hearing telephone number (212) 417-6550. Incoming calls to the Mayer line that do not pertain to either Mayer v. Wing or Rodriguez v. DeBuono will not be transferred to the queue in an effort to avoid tying up the line. The caller will, instead, be given the regular fair hearing request number to redial.

You may refer to previous Transmittal #96-30, issued on July 26, 1996, for additional information regarding the Mayer telephone line.
