Documents : OAH Procedures Transmittals for 1998

98-29: New Issue Code 955: Removal of Pharmacy Coverage from Managed Care Medicaid to Regular Medicaid (08/07/98)

Effective August 1, 1998, pursuant to an amendment in the Social Services Law and Chapter 19 of the Laws of 1998, clients enrolled in Managed Care will no longer receive pharmacy services (prescription and over-the-counter drugs and medical supplies) through their Medicaid Managed Care plan but rather through the Medicaid program. Medicaid recipients will need to use their Medicaid Benefit Card and a pharmacy that accepts Medicaid to obtain coverage for pharmacy services. Issue code 955, Managed Care--Removal of Pharmacy Coverage, has been established to track fair hearing requests concerning this issue.

The New York State Department of Health has sent out a notice to all Medicaid Managed Care members informing them of this change in Law. As the notice advises, there is no aid-continuing right on this issue. Medicaid Managed Care members that have questions regarding this change should be referred to their pharmacist or to the New York State Department of Health at 1-800-210-8362.
