About the Position: HLA seeks an attorney with criminal law experience to serve as Managing Attorney of Appeals and Parole Programs. This position oversees the general operations of both programs, directly supervises the Appeals and Parole supervising attorneys, and reports to the Executive Director. In addition to providing case supervision and providing direct representation, job responsibilities include monitoring and evaluating in-office procedures to improve efficiency and quality, tracking data and preparing reports for funders such as the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services, collaborating with institutional providers and other stakeholders, and participating in quarterly Executive Management Team meetings regarding office-wide policies and practices, among other tasks. Qualifications: Three years of criminal law experience as an admitted attorney in any jurisdiction. Admission in good standing to the New York Bar, or eligibility for admission on motion. Strong people skills and ability to supervise diverse personalities. Strong statutory knowledge, especially of criminal statutes. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Attention to detail. Ability to meet deadlines and requirements. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Salary Transparency: $90,530 to $124,705 annually, depending on candidate qualifications and experience.

Work-Life Balance: Enjoy standard office hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, and from Memorial Day until Labor Day staff can frequently take advantage of summer hours and leave at 4:00 pm.
