The Public Benefits Unit-provides legal advice and representation in matters related to income maintenance issues, including but not limited to Public Assistance, Medicaid, Food Stamps, Unemployment Insurance, and the administrative process of modifying child support obligations with DSS. The attorney will be handling matters from intake and informal advocacy through administrative hearings, trials, and appeals, as necessitated by the individual case. Participation in community legal education is also expected. Demonstrated commitment to the needs of underserved population and the goals of Legal Services is required. Both admitted attorneys and recent law graduates, if eligible to practice under our Student Practice Order will be considered.
START DATE: IMMEDIATELY
SALARY: $66,000-$92,561 DOE, union scale with excellent benefits.
Requirements: Admission to New York State Bar, Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English will be viewed favorably.
