Responsibilities: LSCNY and the Legal Aid Society of Mid New York (LASMNY) have jointly operated the CNY Legal Helpline for 20 years. The Helpline Staff Attorneys provide advice and counsel to callers on civil legal matters. Helpline client interactions occur almost exclusively over the telephone and email. If a staff attorney is available to review the matter for possible full representation and the matter is within the priorities for LSCNY or LASMNY, the Helpline Staff Attorney will facilitate referring the caller to the appropriate attorney. The Helpline is jointly staffed with Intake Legal Assistants and Staff Attorneys.
LSCNY has received funding from New York State to assist tenants facing housing instability. The attorney in this position will advise clients on housing matters such as potential eviction, tenants’ rights, and housing conditions.
Hybrid remote work is available subject to the terms of a collective bargaining agreement.
