OVERVIEW: For more than 50 years, Nassau Suffolk Law Services (NSLS) has been providing free, high quality legal counsel in civil matters when basic human needs are at stake including: eviction and foreclosure prevention, income maintenance, disability, elder law, healthcare, consumer fraud and more. As the only provider of comprehensive civil legal services on Long Island, our services support thousands of poor and low-income families and individuals who cannot afford an attorney. With the gap separating those who can and cannot afford legal representation widening each day, we work to ensure that everyone has equal access to justice, regardless of their ability to pay. STAFF PARALEGAL:
DUTIES: Paralegal to be assigned to the Hempstead office, focused on landlord tenant actions. This position involves litigation and administrative support and assistance, with a wide range of possible tasks, including but not limited to conducting intake interviews, handling subpoenas, maintenance of files, preparation of pleadings and correspondence, and interaction with clients, courts, and opposing counsel. Will accompany attorneys to court daily. Good organization skills and writing ability a must.
REQUIREMENTS: Completion of a professional paralegal’s training program is preferred and or relevant degree. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English will be viewed favorably.
START DATE: Immediate
SALARY: $39,158.00-$40,558. D.O.E.
