Overview

 

Hudson Valley Justice Center (HVJC) is a not-for-profit law firm serving low income immigrants in the Hudson Valley. We handle a broad range of civil legal matters, including housing, immigration, family law, public benefits, disability, consumer, and employment law.  HVJC is currently the only organization representing non-citizens in eviction proceedings in Westchester, Orange, Dutchess, Putnam, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties. Position

 

HVJC has an immediate opening for a full time Paralegal position in our White Plains Office.  The position will support HVJC’s Housing Unit. Primary duties include: providing a range of supportive services to clients, including conducting intakes, making referrals, and providing general legal information and resources to walk-in clients.  Partnering with HVJC attorneys on active cases to enhance service delivery to clients. Some limited case handling under the supervision of an attorney is required.  Must adhere to program standards, funder requirements, and the highest professional standards.  Occasional travel to various outreach locations is required.

 

Requirements:

  • Associates Degree or equivalent work and/or volunteer experience;
  • Spanish/English Bilingual
  • Experience with Microsoft Office environment (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.) and ability to maintain detailed records;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Valid Driver’s license and access to transportation (e.g. car).

Preferred:

  • Experience working with ethnically, culturally, and economically diverse populations;
  • Four-year degree;
  • Paralegal Certificate;
