Homelessness Prevention Staff Attorney

Position: Legal Services of Central New York, Inc. will hire a staff attorney for the
Binghamton office. The position will begin as soon as possible. Hybrid work
arrangements are currently available due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and will
continue to be available under a new policy which will be implemented in January
2022.

Responsibilities: LSCNY has obtained a one-year grant to provide crucial
homelessness prevention legal services in Broome County, New York. The staff
attorney will help tenants achieve housing stability by securing assistance and
resources to avoid homelessness and representing tenants in eviction proceedings in
the Binghamton City Court and the Town and Village Courts in Broome County.
The attorney will also counsel and advise tenants on their rights under state and
federal law, conduct community outreach, and work to build partnerships with local
community organizations.
LSCNY will seek additional funding to extend the work of this project beyond the
one-year period.

Qualification: Applicants should be admitted or eligible for admission to the bar of
the State of New York.

  • Bilingual or multi-lingual is a plus.

Salary/Benefits: Starting salary for a New York admitted attorney is determined
by a collective bargaining agreement and ranges from $46,750 to $74,750,
depending on years of experience. We have an excellent benefits package and a
generous leave policy. LSCNY pays for bar memberships, attorney registration, and
training opportunities, including Mandatory Continuing Legal Education courses.
