Jails Justice Statewide Organizer

The Jails Justice Network is seeking to hire a staff person who is passionate about reducing mass incarceration in the towns and counties outside New York City.  This person will work to cohere and advance the work of community organizations that aim to radically reduce the size of and radically improve conditions in county jails.  Our goal is to develop common objectives and expand relationships with the diverse community organizations seeking alternatives to incarceration.  Excellent communication, media and people skills are critical to this job. Occasional travel and the ability to work some evenings and weekends occasionally is necessary.

Persons may be based in any location with upstate activist organization(s) related to our work.

To apply please send a cover letter, a resume with a chronology of past organizing experience, and contact information for 3 persons who are familiar with your organizing work to:jailsjusticenetwork@gmail.com .  Please use “Jails Justice Position” as the subject line for your email.  Applications should be submitted by August 15th.
