Fiscal Director

Position: Legal Services of Central New York, Inc.(LSCNY) a not-for-profit law firm with an annual budget of $6+ million, seven offices in Central New York, and 53 employees, seeks to hire an experienced, energetic, detail-oriented individual for the position of Fiscal Director located in our main office in Syracuse, New York. The Fiscal Director is an exempt management position.

Responsibilities: A successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in non-profit financial management and accounting and a desire to work in a fastpaced, collaborative environment that often requires multi-tasking and flexibility while maintaining a high level of attention to detail. The Fiscal Director reports to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors and supervises the Accounting Assistant. The Fiscal Director is an active member of the management team. Sage 100 Accounting software experience is a plus.
Accountability and Responsibility:
- Interacting with management, the Board of Directors, and the Audit & Finance Committee.
- Financial management of government grants in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles; preparation and submission of timely financial reports to funders.
- Preparing materials and interacting with the external auditing firm personnel to produce the annual audit, IRS Form 990, NYS CHAR500, and grant compliance audits.
- Leading preparation of the annual budget; preparing budgets for grant applications and renewals.
- Maintaining and enforcing good internal controls, policies, and procedures; updating and documenting the LSCNY Accounting Manual.
- Participating in management planning, supporting, and advising the Executive Director, and maintaining strong banking and insurance relationships.
- Supervising the Accounting Assistant and accounts payable and bank reconciliation functions performed by the Accounting Assistant.
- Preparing accounting and related entries to the general ledger.
- Annually tracking and updating inventory purchases and disposal of equipment and furniture.
Qualifications and Skills:
- BA degree preferred in business administration, finance, or accounting and five years related experience.
- Supervisory skills a plus.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities. LSCNY places a high importance on responsiveness and the ability to nurture good relationships with funders, staff, and vendors.
- Ability to set priorities.
- Keen organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Experience using a computerized accounting system, Microsoft Office applications, and various funder application systems.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of LSCNY.
