Description:

The Center for Resolution & Justice (CRJ) at Child & Family Services seeks an experienced social worker to serve as Project Coordinator for our Crime Victims Justice Project (CVJP).  The Project Coordinator is a newly created position that will develop and conduct comprehensive assessments of client needs and make linkages to related legal, ADR, mental health and other community resources.  The Project Coordinator will work within an interdisciplinary setting to provide trauma-informed, holistic support for crime victims facing legal problems or interpersonal conflict arising from their victimization.  This unique project is one of the first of its kind to pair Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) processes such as mediation, conflict coaching and Restorative Justice practices with traditional legal services to create additional access to justice options and resources for clients.  CRJ administers the project and provides ADR services together with partners, the Center for Elder Law and Justice (CELJ) and Neighborhood Legal Services (NLS), who provide legal information and representation to project clients.

Program Summary:

Child & Family Services (C&FS) fosters safe and healthy environments for children and families in local homes, schools, workplaces, and communities.  The Crime Victims Justice Project is operated by C&FS’ Center for Resolution and Justice, which provides a wide range of ADR and other conflict management services and trainings throughout Western New York.  Funded by the New York State Office of Victim Services, the CVJP offers our clients assistance with their civil legal and related needs in a holistic, trauma-informed manner. This position offers a hybrid work environment with a combination of an in office and work from home schedule.

Minimum Requirements:           

  • MSW with 3 to 5 years of experience, or JD/MSW with 1 to 3 years of experience are preferred. JDs with civil legal services experience who are passionate about access to justice issues will also be considered.
  • Experience in providing trauma informed services;
  • Sensitive to impact of violence on individuals and families throughout our communities;
  • Experience in peaceful conflict resolution strategies and/or working with people in high conflict situations;
  • Excellent organizational, listening, oral and written communication skills;
  • Superior interpersonal, engagement and collaboration skills;
  • Knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to enter data into case management database, utilize Excel for reporting, and Zoom/Microsoft Teams for virtual meetings, and the ability to produce PowerPoint presentations, etc.;
  • Must be flexible, able to work both independently and on a team environment and be willing to adapt responsibilities according to program needs and demands;
  • Ability to manage time and complete activities and projects proficiently;
  • Willing and able to frequently travel to and work in a variety of settings, including C&FS offices, courts, community offices and remotely;
  • Willing to travel occasionally throughout and outside of WNY for local, regional, statewide meetings and other professional development opportunities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct a comprehensive assessment of client (and family) needs related to their victimization and identify and make linkages to services to address those needs;
  • Work with Project Manager/Lead Attorney to establish policy and procedures for CVJP client access to comprehensive assessment process;;
  • Create greater likelihood for clients’ successful transition from intake to receipt of services by coordinating “warm” referrals to project partners for ADR and legal services; and/or community supports;
  • Utilize electronic case management system to input, update and close case files; and prepare periodic reports;
  • Electronically track and monitor follow up of services offered to clients;
  • Engage with individuals and systems to effect positive change for the crime victim and their families;
  • Work with Project Manager/Lead Attorney and agency partners to design and deliver client feedback survey for CVJP;
  • Work collaboratively with a focus on teamwork across all programs, including C&FS, CRJ, and partner civil legal services organizations;
  • Plan and participate in community outreach efforts;
  • Design and maintain updated database of community resources, contact information and program eligibility for project’s clients;
  • Assist clients with OVS victim compensation application and monitor application status;
  • Participate in the quality assurance efforts in accordance with State, agency, and CRJ requirements;
  • Work collaboratively with a focus on teamwork across all CRJ initiatives and foster this culture within the CVJP;
  • Develop and deliver in-service training for staff and other program stakeholders, based on areas of identified interest or need, or as requested by Director or program manager;
  • Attend and participate in regular project, CRJ and agency meetings;
  • Assist with developing and supervising project intern program;
  • Attend professional development trainings as required;
  • Incorporate the agency mission, values and philosophy in decisions, behaviors and actions;
  • Model and practice sensitivity, fair treatment and acceptance of diversity in all interpersonal interactions and in accordance with trauma informed practices;
  • Comply with all aspects of the Vehicle Safety and Usage Policy;
  • Participate in special projects and performs other duties as required.
