The Mental Health Advocates of WNY is seeking a passionate, full-time, attorney to run our Legal Services department. The MHA of WNY treasures, respects and seeks to preserve the integrity of all those we serve. Our daily practice is to honor our commitment to support mental health and help those living with mental illness. Responsibilities/Duties
- Responsible for the direct supervision of the legal services staff which consists of attorneys and paralegals including case assignment
- Maintain an individual caseload, representing clients in a variety of areas including, Social Security Disability/Supplemental Security Income, Housing, Family, Matrimonial, Consumer, among others
- Responsible for contract compliance including financial and narrative reporting to funders
- Community Outreach ? presentations to different social services organizations regarding MHA?s services
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor Degree
-Must be a member, in good standing, of the New York State Bar OR be eligible to become a member within a reasonable time after beginning employment. The ability to maintain such standing throughout employment with the MHA is required.
-Excellent oral and written communications skills
-Ability to assist with mental health consumers and the general public in a respectful manner
-Thorough knowledge of legal research
