SOCIAL WORKER, Benefits Counseling Pilot Project
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Social Worker will work within our David Project, our unit which helps individuals that are HIV+. Supervision will be provided by the Director of Social Work as well as the Supervising Attorney of the David Project. The duties of the Social Worker (Benefits Counselor) shall include: screening clients for education needs regarding benefits counseling; providing individualized education and benefits counseling; providing marketing for benefits counseling initiative and broad seminar type education; providing basic information related to advanced directives, discrimination, HIV confidentiality issues, health insurance, power of attorney and wills as needed; making appropriate referrals to David Project legal services staff or for other supportive services; facilitating group education sessions/seminars on benefits counseling; collaborating with care coordinators/case managers in assessing client need, developing service plans and participating in case conferences

REQUIREMENTS: An M.S.W. degree from an accredited school of social work. New York State License must be either current or candidate must be willing to acquire. Must have completed, or be willing to complete, Seminar in Field Instruction. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English preferred. Experience working in the field of HIV/AIDS will be viewed favorably. Understanding of community level work and the importance of collaborating with other organizations. Effective communication and documentation skills.

START DATE: April 1, 2020
SALARY: DOE, union scale with excellent benefits
