Coordinator, Community Legal Help Project

COORDINATOR, COMMUNITY LEGAL HELP PROJECT
LOCATION:     Islandia, Suffolk County, NY

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  The CLHP is a partnership of legal services providers created by the NYS Permanent Commission on Access to Justice and the Suffolk County Access to Justice Committee.  The CLHP's network of non-profit partners and pro bono volunteers currently provides legal information and referrals, and limited-scope representation through a phone line and brief in-person consultations at public libraries.  

The attorney will coordinate the operation and further development of the CLHP and will provide direct service to the community through the CLHP phone line and clinics. The position also offers the coordinator the opportunity to work with the Access to Justice Committee to develop innovative methods of expanding access to justice through remote access consultations, do-it-yourself programs or other creative approaches to helping people navigate their legal problems.

The attorney will help recruit volunteers and develop training materials and resources for new volunteers. The attorney will also support strong connections between legal service providers across Long Island to improve client access to these programs.

START DATE: January 2, 2020

SALARY:    $52,458 DOE, full benefits package

REQUIREMENTS: Admission to the New York State Bar.  Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English will be viewed favorably.
