About the Position: The
Hiscock Legal Aid Society, a non-profit legal aid organization, seeks a
licensed social worker for its Family Court and Civil programs. The social worker will evaluate clients and
recommend necessary treatment options. The
social worker will attend court appearances with clients, advocate for them at
a variety of meetings and provide overall support to the client during his/her
time of need. The social worker will
work closely with Family Court and Civil program attorneys and provide a
collaborative approach for each client they work with. They will be responsible for interviewing
clients, communicating and coordinating with treatment providers, communicating
with the Department of Children and Family Services, organizing necessary
paperwork and supporting documents, and performing bio-psycho-social
assessments. Some local travel may be
required.
Preferred
Qualifications: MSW and NYS certification in social work (LMSW); background
in working with clients with special needs: history of substance abuse, mental
illness, intellectual disabilities and developmental delays; excellent oral and
written communication skills; ability to negotiate with community-based
treatment providers; excellent organizational skills; ability to work within a
team.
Preferred
Qualifications: Ability to multi-task. Strong written and oral advocacy
skills. Diverse economic, social, and/or cultural experiences.
Salary: Depends
on experience.
