Tenant's Rights Attorney

About the Position: HLA seeks an attorney to join our expanding housing and tenants' rights practice and to defend tenants facing eviction proceedings in Syracuse City Court. This attorney will also be expected to provide advice and counsel and other legal services to tenants with housing issues, and to participate in outreach and community education initiatives concerning tenants' rights. This position presents a unique opportunity to join a collaborative office working to provide high-quality housing legal services to tenants in the City of Syracuse, and with the recent passage and implementation of the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection of 2019 this is a dynamic and evolving area of practice.

Require Qualifications: Demonstrated commitment to public-interest law and to serving low-income persons. Admission or pending admission to New York bar.

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to multi-task. Strong written and oral advocacy skills. Diverse economic, social, and/or cultural experiences.

Salary: Depends on experience.
