Paralegal:

Job Summary

Provides support to staff attorneys for programs serving low income clients in VLSP's immigration, consumer and family law practice. Provides online, telephone, and in person intake coverage to gather client and case information. Provide backup support to other staff paralegals in the office and at our Help Centers. Requires excellent attention to detail, including the ability to record information accurately, produce reports, and evaluate information to determine compliance for agency programs and funders. Participation in community outreach events including preparation of program promotional materials. Ability to work in a community setting when legal services are provided outside of the office.  Assists with preparation of Continuing Legal Education seminars for attorneys.

Qualifications and Skills

Education/Experience/Abilities: College education preferred. Experience working with low income, historically marginalized communities and/or immigrants is desired. Must have a professional demeanor, ability to work independently and excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Previous database management experience helpful. Ability to document information accurately, prepare database reports, and evaluate information to determine compliance with program standards. Ability to work under pressure and provide a high level of client care. Excellent administrative and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. Must be able to adapt to changing priorities, job assignments, and working conditions.  Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
