Program Director

• Identify the communities hardest hit by student debt, delinquency, and default
• Design and develop services and strategies  to support consumers in those targeted communities
• Establish a network of community partnerships for client recruitment and referrals
• Provide support and technical assistance to community partners
• Develop and conduct a student debt training program for a cadre of volunteer coaches and provide ongoing supervision and support
• Provide training, presentations and community clinics to support borrowers, service providers, and  advocates
• Develop a system to respond to calls and to inquiries regarding complex and legal student debt issues and maintain thorough case records of services provided and referrals
• Identify systemic trends and practices that adversely affect student loan borrowers and work closely with appropriate entities and stakeholders to seek redress and remedies
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge and expertise in all facets of student loan debt and analyze significant developments and trends in state and federal practices and reforms
• Conduct administrative and legislative advocacy and participate in hearings, public forums, conferences and legislative advocacy days
• Assist in the creation and dissemination of testimony, issue briefs, reports and PowerPoint presentations
• Develop a network of legal service partner organizations throughout New York State to serve in an advisory capacity in the statewide rollout of the program
• Facilitate substantive meetings and calls with partners individually and collectively to engage in strategic planning and coordination of advocacy and media activities.

• Must have earned a JD and be admitted to the practice of law in NY
• Thorough knowledge of consumer law with student loan debt in particular
• Experience in helping student loan borrowers experiencing delinquency and default
• Demonstrated leadership in developing and working with coalitions to achieve common goals and priorities
• Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely, and persuasively
• Research and data based management skills
