Description: The Farmworker Law Project (FLP) of the Legal Aid
Society of Mid-New York, Inc. (LASMNY) seeks a staff attorney to work with our
project. FLP advocates for migrant and seasonal farmworkers throughout
New York State in employment and civil rights cases, focusing on the
fundamental rights of minimum, overtime and contract wages, housing conditions
in labor camps, and workplace safety. FLP also represents victims of
human trafficking and other immigration applicants. In addition,
advocates conduct outreach and community education to migrant farmworkers in
rural labor camps throughout New York. FLP is located in New Paltz,
75 miles north of New York City. LASMNY is a non-profit public
interest law firm funded by the Legal Services Corporation, New York State
Interest on Lawyer Account Fund, and New York State Office of Court
Administration, among others.
● Represent farmworkers on federal and state
employment, civil rights, immigration and safety legal claims in federal and
Travel to farm labor camps throughout New York State to lead and facilitate
community legal education activities with farmworkers;
● Develop and design (in English and Spanish)
community legal education materials for farmworkers on topics including labor,
housing, health and safety, immigration, and civil rights;
● Collaborate with other organizations and
agencies for client referrals, workshop development and trainings;

● Assist in other activities as assigned by the
Managing Attorney and Executive Director in order to carry out the objectives
of the Farmworker Law Project.
● Fluency in written and oral Spanish;
willingness to travel overnight required.
● Knowledge and understanding of the legal
problems and needs of the poor; prior working experience with the farmworker
community or in other programs which aid the working poor.
Strong academic training and performance.
Good writing and computer skills;
● Admission to the Bar of the State of New York
or eligibility to practice in New York under the 18 month legal services rule
and up to five years prior legal practice; the nature and extent of prior legal
Valid insurable driver's license;
