Staff Attorney - Immigration Program

The attorney will have the opportunity to be part of a team of professionals who have dedicated themselves to the mission of LAS, which is the provision of high quality civil legal services to low and moderate income litigants.

The attorney's responsibilities will include; providing criminal-immigration advise and trainings to defense counsel and courts, representing persons in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court in Buffalo and Batavia; appearances at interviews before UCIS in Buffalo; preparation of immigration applications; and handling of administrative and judicial appeals. The attorney must be admitted to the New York bar.

Strong analytical, written and oral advocacy, and organizational, skills are necessary for this position, as well as the ability to multi-task. We are looking for a candidate who respects, and can be considerate to, low income clients. The ability to travel within the immediate Rochester area is required. The candidate must be computer literate and able to work with the office's online case management system. Prior immigration and criminal or family court experience is strongly preferred.

The position, while challenging, will be immensely gratifying. We are looking for a candidate who is committed to the immigrant communities we serve, is self-motivated, detail oriented, well-organized, able to work independently and as a member of a team, and able to grasp within a reasonable time a complex area of law.
