The Organization

 

The Hudson Valley Justice Center (HVJC) is a not-for-profit organization providing high quality direct civil legal services to immigrants so that they may achieve access to justice.  Addressing the unmet civil legal needs of immigrants in Westchester County, HVJC provides comprehensive civil legal services including immigration, housing, public benefits, disability, employment, consumer, and family law. HVJC is an affiliate organization of Legal Services of the Hudson Valley.

Position

 

HVJC's Board of Directors seeks a dynamic leader who has the innovation, energy and expertise to provide leadership and vision in managing and growing the organization. The Executive Director will oversee all organizational operations including staff supervision, fundraising, public relations, and day-to-day management. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will fulfill the organizational mission and develop and implement strategic goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

 

-         Provide leadership and direction for organizational mission, goals and objectives, and short-and-long term strategy

-         Generate excitement from stakeholders in achieving the organization's mission of providing comprehensive civil legal services to immigrants

-         Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; seek and build board involvement in order to maintain transparency and to allow the Board to fulfill its governance duties

-         Actively engage and energize stakeholders, volunteers, and partnering organizations

-         Hire, lead, develop, supervise and retain high-performance staff


  • Create and execute fundraising plan that includes local, state, federal, private foundation, and individual funding sources.

  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with current partners and potential donors

  • Serve as the public spokesperson for the organization

  • Exercise sound financial management of all assets, revenue, and expenditures with proper controls, regular reporting to the board of directors, compliance with all applicable laws, regular and timely independent audits

  • Build strategic external partnerships that help the organization generate financial resources

  • Formulate and implement organization policies and procedures

  • Provide direct civil legal services, as needed, to clients Qualifications

  • JD and member in good standing of the New York State Bar;

  • High level management experience in a non-profit setting, preferably involving the provision of civil legal services;

  • Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income persons with prior experience in legal services or similar program preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills

  • Strong fundraising skills and experience with a broad variety of funders

  • Persuasive and dynamic public speaker

  • Sound knowledge of and experience developing and managing budgets

  • Entrepreneurial with an ability to succeed with modest infrastructure

  • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
