The New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) seeks a highly-motivated attorney for a full-time position within NYLAG's Immigrant Protection Unit. NYLAG provides comprehensive, free civil legal services to low-income New Yorkers who cannot afford a private attorney. As part of the NYC Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs' (MOIA) NYCitizenship program, the attorney will provide Citizenship services offsite at public library branches, under the supervision of NYLAG's Supervising Attorneys of Immigrant Protection Unit and with full access to the NYLAG's resources. The attorney will handle a caseload of straightforward Citizenship application cases, and connect all program participants to NYCitizenship one-on-one financial counseling services at the libraries. The attorney will also conduct regular citizenship information sessions and organize trainings for library staff about the NYCitizenship program. The program will be closely coordinated with NYLAG's own Financial Counseling Division.
NYCitizenship is a citywide initiative that seeks to boost the capacity of citizenship services in New York City's public libraries; provide citizenship services to a targeted group of HRA clients; and connect all NYCitizenship participants to financial empowerment services.
