The Legal Aid Society's Juvenile Rights Practice is seeking a Staff Attorney with a deep commitment to public interest practice and policy to join a dedicated, interdisciplinary team in the Staten Island office. The Staff Attorney provides legal representation to children, ages 0 to 21 years, who are before NYC family courts on child protective, PINS (Persons-In-Need-of-Supervision), juvenile delinquency, and termination of parental rights petitions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
* Assist in maintaining a high standard of representation and client service
* Respond to client, community and management concerns
* Collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment and communication
* Maintain and prioritize workload including case management reports
* Participating in fact-finding, dispositional, and post-dispositional hearings
* Handling institutional assignments including intake and case coverage
* Conducting out-of-court case preparation including interviewing, investigation, document review, witness preparation
* Drafting motions, orders, bills/demands and other documents
* Counseling clients
* Consulting and advocating with service providers
* Identifying issues and resources
* Seeking compliance with court orders, regulatory requirements and agency policies
* Ensuring that the child's position is represented in all decisions made about their life
