The Housing Unit provides legal representation
and advice to tenants facing eviction and termination from federally subsidized
housing programs. The staff attorney
will represent tenants in summary eviction proceedings, appeals and at hearings
before local Housing Authorities contesting terminations from federally
subsidized housing programs, and may file affirmative actions in State Supreme
and/or Federal Court to enforce local, state and federal fair housing laws.
In addition, the staff attorney
will provide advice and counsel, and pro se assistance, to tenants we will not
otherwise represent in Court or administrative hearings, and will be expected
to engage in community outreach. The
staff attorney's duties will include maintain client and case date, time
records and statistical information in the office's computerized case
management system.
Requirements: Nassau/Suffolk
Law Services is a non-profit organization providing free legal services to
low-income households. Admission to the
New York State Bar or applicants who have passed the Bar Examination and are
awaiting admission, is preferred.
SALARY: $50,250.00 D.O.E.
