Managing Attorney
Position: Managing Attorney position for Legal Services of Central New York, Inc. (LSCNY) in Syracuse, New York.

Background: Legal Services of Central New York (LSCNY) is committed to achieving justice for low-income people and those who have difficulty accessing the justice system. For more than 50 years, LSCNY has represented clients in housing, income security, consumer, education, employment, and access to health care matters. We seek to make a difference in clients' lives and their communities by eliminating the barriers that cause poverty or reduce our clients' ability to escape from poverty. We continually search for ways to improve the lives of our clients and their communities by creating new projects such as the Faith Seidenberg Racial Justice Initiative and the Community Counsel Project.

Responsibilities:  The Managing Attorney will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of staff and legal work by several special projects located in Syracuse, but reaching into all 13 counties we serve. The projects relate to health care, employment law, consumer law, education law, immigrant rights, and racial justice. Staff attorneys in the projects engage in individual casework and projects and co-counsel with other LSCNY staff attorneys in specialized areas. Some case-handling and local travel is expected.

Qualifications:

              At least 5 years experience, preferably in civil legal services or public interest.Admitted or eligible for admission to the bar of the State of New York preferred.
              A demonstrated commitment to providing high quality legal assistance to low-income and under-served populations.
              Excellent analytical, legal writing, and advocacy skills.
              Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
              Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
              Demonstrated ability to effectively work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
