Paralegal/Case Manager
The grant operates in conjunction with funds provided by Broome County to provide enhanced services to litigants with active cases in the Broome County Family Court.  Clients are assigned by the Court to LASMNY.  The paralegal/case manager will be responsible to (1) work under the direct supervision of attorneys to serve clients predominantly in the areas of child abuse and neglect; (2) interact with clients in a holistic, client-centered manner to address issues of family reunification and collateral needs by assisting clients in locating and accessing services; (3) facilitate communication between clients and service providers; (4) compile and maintain an "encyclopedia" of local service providers; (5) maintain accurate records and statistics and submit timely reports; and (6) assist in other activities as assigned by managing and supervising attorneys in order to carry out the objectives of the program.  A valid driver's license and the ability to travel is required.

The following factors, among others, are considered as qualifications for the paralegal/case manager position:  Associates Degree or higher in Human Development, Human Services or other applicable field; the nature and extent of prior paralegal and/or case management experience; knowledge and understanding of the legal problems and needs of and social supports for the poor; prior experience working in the client community or in other programs to aid the poor; ability to communicate in an effective and non-judgmental manner; ability to work cooperatively; ability to take direction;
