Position: Legal Services of Central New
York, Inc. will hire staff attorneys for its Binghamton and Utica offices.
Background: Legal Services of Central New
York (LSCNY) is committed to achieving justice for low-income people and those
who have difficulty accessing the justice system. For 50 years, LSCNY has represented
clients in housing, income security, consumer, education, employment, and
access to health care matters. We seek to make a difference in clients' lives
and their communities by eliminating the barriers that cause poverty or reduce
our clients' ability to escape from poverty. We continually search for ways to
improve the lives of our clients and their communities by creating new projects
such as the Faith Seidenberg Racial Justice Initiative and the Community
Counsel Project.
Responsibilities: Staff attorneys engage in
comprehensive legal representation including advice, negotiation, litigation,
and administrative and legislative advocacy. Attorneys represent individuals and
engage in broad-based impact advocacy. Attorneys collaborate in teams led by an
experienced supervisor.
Qualifications:
Admitted
or eligible for admission to the bar of the State of New York.
A demonstrated commitment to
providing high quality legal assistance to low-income and under-served client
populations.
Excellent analytical,
legal writing, and advocacy skills.
Excellent
organizational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and
collaboratively.
Demonstrated ability
to effectively work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
